Kidney disease has become a common problem. In today’s scenario, almost 10 % of the entire population has been affected by kidney disease in one way or another. Kidney problems are a kind of silent killers, and they affect the quality of your life. Here are a few tips that can keep your kidneys healthy.


1. Eat Healthily


Your kidneys assist in excretion of waste and toxins, control body fluids, and maintain the electrolyte levels. Over time, a poor diet can weaken your kidneys and create health problems. When your kidneys do not function properly, it can result in you suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and obesity as well. To help your kidneys, follow a healthy diet, which includes less processed food and more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

2. Watch Your Salt Intake


Too much salt in your diet is responsible for several problems in your body. When consumed in excess, it can harm your kidneys by raising the protein content in your urine. It can also increase your blood pressure and aid in the formation of kidney stones. Kidney stones can become very painful and cause a lot of damage.

3. Drink Enough Water


Water provides a variety of nutrients to your body and also clears the waste from your bladder by increasing urine flow. When you do not drink enough water, your kidney filters can get clogged, increasing the waste sedimentation. Frequent dehydration, though mild, can damage your kidneys as well. Make sure you drink at least four to six glasses of water every day.


4. Exercise


A proper and regular workout session can prevent lifestyle diseases like heart conditions and diabetes, which can damage your kidneys. Similarly, unplanned and excessive workouts can cause damage to your kidneys as well. Make sure you follow a proper workout session for thirty minutes for at least five days a week.

5. Get Screened


Make sure you contact your physician and get yourself screened with the right tests if you suspect problems concerning your kidneys. In case you already have a family history of high blood pressure, heart disease, kidney failure, or diabetes, you are more likely to get kidney disease.

6. Be Careful With Alcohol


Alcohol consumption is hazardous to your overall health. Excessive consumption of alcohol can create severe and longterm problems for your kidneys.

7. Quit Smoking


Smoking damages your blood vessels and slows down the blood flow in your body, affecting the performance of your kidneys. Smoking can also increase your blood pressure, which in turn can cause kidney problems.
