Home Remedies for Gray Hair
No matter what age hair starts turning gray, it always takes some time to sink in, even though it occurs gradually and is a part of the normal aging process. Even more difficult is to accept premature graying, that is, gray hair in your twenties. Premature graying can be due to stress, genetics, hormonal imbalance, and a poor diet. Each hair in your body goes through a natural cycle of death and regeneration. When the hair follicles age or do not get sufficient nutrients, they are likely to produce gray hair to replace the last hair that died. Melanocytes, the cells that produce the dark pigment melanin, give your skin and hair color, and when the hair follicles do not produce enough melanocytes, new hair turns whitish-gray. If you want your hair to make sufficient melanocytes, start eating right, include a lot of fruits, vegetables, protein, and avoid exposing your hair to chemicals. We have listed the top four home remedies that will increase melanin production and fight gray hair.
1) Protein
Everybody knows how keratin, a type of protein, is great for your hair and nails. Keratin is present in the surface cells of your hair follicles, and the breakdown of this protein leads to hair loss, premature graying, and many other hair and nail problems. While you cannot eat keratin directly, you can include a diet that is rich in protein. Your body extracts amino acids from the consumed protein and converts them to keratin. So do not forget to include eggs, almonds, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, broccoli, etc., in your diet to maintain long strands of healthy and shiny black hair.
2) Amla and Coconut Oil
Amla or Indian Gooseberry, a fruit, is used as an herbal supplement to reverse premature graying and make your hair naturally black. It is rich in antioxidants and has excellent anti-aging properties. This fruit is available as a powder, which can be mixed with coconut oil (you can also add grated ginger and honey), or you can boil some pieces of dry Amla in coconut oil (let it sit overnight) and then apply it to your scalp. Doing this regularly is the fastest natural treatment for gray hair.
3) Black Tea
Did you know you can make your hair shinier, darker, and softer using black tea? All you have to do is make a cup of black tea and add a tablespoon of salt. Now gently massage this warm mixture on your scalp so that your hair roots are adequately nourished. You can wash your hair with a gentle shampoo after an hour.
4) Sage
Sage, a herb, can be used to darken gray hair. For this, boil four tablespoons of dried sage in water, and let the mixture stand for a couple of hours. Drain this mixture and add a few drops of glycerine power. Massaging your scalp with this mixture will provide your hair with Vitamin E and make your hair black, shiny, and long.
