7 Worst Fruits for Diabetes
Fruits are usually rated diabetic friendly considering their ability to alter blood sugar level. The GI(Glycemic Index) of the fruit is also something that has to be considered before making the decision. A fruit can be considered diabetic friendly, if the GI is less than 55. Apple, Strawberry, and Pear are some of the fruits that are diabetic friendly.
Mango: Considered to be the King of fruits, it is one of the most delicious fruits. It has a high sugar content and GI level. If taken on a regular basis, it does serious damage to your blood sugar level.
Sapodilla: Also Known as sapota, its GI level is higher than 55. It is also rich in carbohydrates along with sugar. Diabetic patients are advised against consuming this fruit.
Grapes: Being a combination of fiber, essential nutrients and vitamins – grapes are usually considered healthy. But the fact that they have a high sugar content remains. This fruit is going to do more damage than good for diabetic patients.
Pineapple: A small cup of pineapple has 20 or more grams of carbohydrates in it. Also having a high GI value, it is not recommended for Diabetic patients.
Pumpkin: Even the benefits of vitamin C, calcium, iron and fiber of the pumpkins can’t compensate the damage its high carbohydrate content does to diabetic patients.
Apricot: Half a cup of apricot has around 8 grams of carbohydrates. Its GI value is also 57, making it a definite ‘no’ for sugar patients.
Banana: The GI level of a banana can range anywhere between 46 – 70 depending on how ripe they are. Half a cup of banana has around 15 to 20 grams of carbohydrates. A full ripe banana does severe damage to a diabetic patient’s health.
