Do people move away when you talk to them? If yes, it can be due to bad breath. Some people do not know that their breath smells horrible, as it is hard to smell your breath and judge its odor. What to do? Well, you can ask a family member or someone you trust to give an honest opinion. And if you feel that your breath is not as fresh as it should be and spend money buying mints and mouthwash, this blog is also for you. We have listed four easy and extremely effective home remedies to get minty fresh breath.

1) Brush, Floss, and Clean Your Tongue

3

Not brushing and flossing properly results in food particles sticking between your teeth. These food particles can rot and cause bad breath. Even more important is scraping your tongue. The rough surface of your tongue is the perfect place for nasty breath-causing compounds to form and produce an unpleasant sulfur-like smell. So do not forget to brush, floss properly, and scrape or brush your tongue twice every day. Make sure you are gentle while scraping your tongue.

2) Keep Yourself Hydrated

4

When you do not drink enough water, the saliva content in your mouth goes down. A lack of saliva results in bacterial overgrowth, leading to bad breath. All you have to do is keep sipping on water at regular intervals. When you feel your mouth odor is bad, drink a little water, and you will immediately feel a difference. However, if you drink enough water and still your mouth is dry, it can be a side effect of a medication you are on or some underlying medical condition, and you should consult a doctor.

3) Eat Better

5

Vegetables and fruits that are high in fiber and crunchy help cleanse your mouth of food particles stuck between the teeth and tongue. Also, increasing the intake of raw foods helps scrape plaque (the yellowish film that forms on the teeth and contains bacteria) and fights bad breath. Avoid sugary and sweet food items, as the white sugar content results in bacterial overgrowth and affects the odor. Limit consumption of raw onions and garlic for apparent reasons.

4) Use Alcohol-Free Mouthwashes

6

Most commercially available mouthwashes contain alcohol. While alcohol has antimicrobial properties, it also dries your mouth and worsens bad breath. You can use herbal mouthwashes, or you can use homemade ones. For example, you can mix two teaspoons of baking soda or two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water.
